Year 2 of the Australian FIM Mini GP series, which is run by Ohvale Australia, kicked off last weekend at Port Melbourne Go Kart track.
Representing Race Center for the second year running, in collaboration with the Murray Valley Training Centre & Fyffe racing, is 11 year old Jed Fyffe #23.
And wow! Seeing the progress made by all riders in the last 12 months underlines what a great initiative this series really is.
The development path it provides for young riders is just phenomenal and something our sport really has longed for.
It’s not just the kids either, our senior race team also use Ohvale’s, to train and hone their skills for the big bikes and tracks.
Us here at Race Center couldn’t be happier to be involved.
Report
While young Jed was a very accomplished dirt track rider, 2022 was new experience for him on tarmac. Under the guidance of Murray Valley Training Center chief Chas Hern, and Jed’s parents Mathew & Kim, Jed has really started to get to grips with the tar and the little GP-0 160cc.
And the proof of that was Jed setting a new lap record for the FIM MiniGP 160cc class with a 55.0 in Race 2 of 2
After a very strong start to the weekend, sitting in P3 after practice and qualifying 1, Jed’s final grid position and run in Q2 was hampered by a snap high side. This left Jed starting both of Sunday’s races pretty sore and from 5th on the grid.
With a pep talk form Chas and Mathew, Jed pulled out a couple of great rides showing maturity beyond his years. In both races his starts were not great, losing places on lap one which left him a bit of work to do. Yet, little Jed just chipped away lap after lap, minimising any mistakes and improving his pace lap by lap to score 2 x 5th places. Each of which were not far off the podium at all! Plus, a new lap record to boot!
What a top effort and great start to the series.
Our involvement in the MiniGP has really complimented our pre-existing senior state and national race team. Slowly building to what we hope will be a great development path for both young and mature age riders. We will be looking to expand our involvement in this great series in 2024 and we are on the look out for new commercial partners. So if you have a business or brand that you think could benefit from our foot print and reach, don’t be scared to reach out.
